According to nutritional scientist Alex Ruani, red grapes could help lower cholesterol and inflammation, and boost immunity - with Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Asda shoppers urged to stock up. Speaking to The Times, Ms Ruani, a researcher in nutrition science at University College London, explained how red grapes are rich in polyphenols.

Only 10% of Hungarians eat enough fruit and vegetables, survey reveals
Only 10% of Hungarians eat recommended amount of fruit and vegetables (400g) by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to a recent representative survey conducted as part of STADA's Seedling Program ("STADA Palánta"). In fact, based on the survey, only one in two of our fellow citizens are aware of good nutrition and the WHO recommendations, reports Világgazdaság. Rhubarb, currants, sour cherries, raspberries, cherries, gooseberries, tomatoes, kohlrabi, beetroot, zucchini, cauliflower, and many other fruits and vegetables are in season in June. The majority of respondents (71%) buy their fruit and vegetables from hypermarkets and supermarkets, and almost one in two Hungarians buy from a greengrocer.

'We're not backing down': US grocery workers take on Kroger with strike vote
About 6,000 grocery store workers are set to vote on strike action after the expiration of their union contract with the Kroger-owned Food 4 Less chain. The contract with United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) expired on Saturday. Members are voting on whether to authorize an unfair labor practice strike if a new deal is not reached, and results expected late on Friday.

Dollarama ups stake in Latin American business Dollarcity, plans expansion to Mexico
Dollarama Inc. has upped its stake in Dollarcity to 60.1% and revealed it has big plans for expanding the Latin American chain. Montreal-based Dollarama announced that it had snatched up an additional 10% interest in Dollarcity, which it intends to bring to Mexico. The expansion announcement came on the same day that Dollarama reported a profit of $215.8mln or 77 cents per diluted for its quarter ended April 28, up from a profit of $179.9mln or 63 cents per diluted share a year earlier.

US: Grocery food inflation stays flat in May
Overall food inflation inched up slightly in May, rising 0.1% month over month, but some food staples trended upwards, according to the Consumer Price Index Report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Fruit and vegetable prices were unchanged in May, but year over year, the produce index was up 0.6%.
