Bord Bia says strawberries are Ireland's preferred fruit

In Ireland, strawberries have been recognized as the nation's preferred fruit, according to Bord Bia. Boro Valley Fruit Farm, located in Enniscorthy, Wexford, and operated by Martin Murphy, is among the enterprises dedicated to cultivating strawberries. The farm, established by Murphy's father, is committed to producing Bord Bia quality-assured strawberries for leading Irish supermarkets and stores.

The popularity of strawberries is evident as they lead the Irish fruit market in value for 2023, holding a 15.3% share, followed by dessert apples at 14.8% and grapes at 12.2%. The 'Celebrate Strawberry Season' initiative, a collaboration between the Irish Soft Fruit Growers Association, Bord Bia, and the IFA, aims to boost strawberry consumption from May to October. A public information campaign supports this initiative, promoting the inclusion of strawberries in meals throughout the day. Bord Bia suggests storing strawberries in the fridge with their stalks intact and washing them before use to maintain freshness. For more ideas and recipes, Bord Bia's website and social media platforms are recommended resources.
