Scientists from Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University in Kazakhstan are developing new melon varieties. At an international conference in Tashkent, they shared their work under a memorandum with the Uzbek Research Institute of Vegetables, Melon Crops, and Potato.
Samalbek Kosanov, Head of the Botanical Garden and Greenhouse, highlighted the analysis of melon varieties grown between the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers. He emphasized the importance of varietal characteristics in melon processing and stronger ties between scientists and farmers.
The Kyzylorda team will provide five new melon varieties to their Uzbek counterparts and conduct trials in the Kyzylorda region. These efforts aim to produce competitive, transport-resistant tasty melons.
Their work was praised by Rustam Nizamov, Director General of the Uzbek Institute. Uzbek scientists will visit Kyzylorda in August to learn more about local melon farming practices, strengthening bilateral scientific cooperation.
