Watermelons in the spotlight this week

In recent years, supermarkets have been very resourceful at making their fruit and vegetable departments stand out. This week, watermelons and melons are being showcased at the Auchan supermarket in Cognac (Charente department). The display features a tractor filled with large watermelons. This is a first for the chain, and was created by Eric Fabre and his team. "I think we are the first Auchan store in France to feature a tractor."

It is a way of promoting Spanish watermelons at the start of summer, which are "stable in price" despite the variable weather. "It is a fruit we are keen to promote because of its many virtues. It keeps you hydrated when temperatures are high and it is known to improve digestion." The display was designed to boost consumption, like the many other promotions carried out by the store throughout the year.
