Namibia closes border on some vegetables

The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) has imposed a closed border policy on certain vegetables for June to support local farmers, according to a Simonis Storm Securities report. The restricted items include beetroot, butternut, cabbage, and onions, aiming to boost domestic production by limiting imports. This initiative, part of the Market Share Promotion (MSP) scheme, encourages importers to source locally. However, due to shortfalls in local production, carrots, washed potatoes, and lettuce remain on the open border list, allowing unrestricted imports. Additionally, jam tomatoes will be regulated on a pro-rata basis to balance local and imported supply.
