Cucumber price slipped, lettuce prices high

The high cucumber prices of recent weeks disappeared last week. The median price for week 24 comes out at 24.7 euro cents each at FBT. Still a tidy price, above the five-year average.

Tomato prices are around that five-year average, with kilo prices of 60.5 euro cents for loose and 47.1 euro cents for truss.

The middle price for peppers at VBT has found its way back up after a brief dip. Both red (2.15 euros per kilo) yellow (1.66) and green (1.30) were paid better compared to week 23. If we lump all colours together, that yields a median price of over 1.81 euros per kilo for week 24. That price is comparable to 2023 and well above the five-year average.

With all the wetness in the fields outside, we see lettuce prices shooting up. Most visible in the VBT figures for head lettuce, but prices for other types of lettuce are also rising. Lollo rossa from outdoors yielded more than 1 euro on average in week 24 (1.049 euro cents per head) and iceberg lettuce comes very close with a unit price of 96.6 euro cents.

The middle price for strawberry comes out at 4.745 euros per kilo over week 24.
