"Created to meet the needs of a product-conscious consumer, with a simple label and very few ingredients from the short food supply chain, our thirst-quenching and healthy almond milk drink is in high demand during this scorching hot summer. Made with selected almonds from the Sicilian food supply chain, the drink is 100 percent plant-based, naturally gluten-free and cholesterol-free. Thanks to its characteristics, it can be consumed by people with lactose intolerance and milk protein allergies. It is an ideal beverage for breakfast, as a complement to coffee, or to be enjoyed cold at any time of the day, free of preservatives and artificial flavors, and vailable in packs of 4 Tetra Brik 1,000 ml," says Bruno Caracciolo, owner of the Italian company Amandula.
Bruno Caracciolo, Ramona and Fabio Trunfio. Amandula manufactures products obtained from the processing of selected almonds.
It was back in 1965 that Giovanni Caracciolo and Caterina Laganà opened the first artisan processing plant in Calabria, which would mark the beginning of the company's activities. The Caracciolo laboratory, founded in Brancaleone (RC), with the new generation of entrepreneurs, has specialized in the production of almond paste, almond drinks, pistachios and semi-finished dried fruit products for ice cream and pastry making. Recently, the company has launched new product lines and expanded its range of spreadable creams. These include two new flavors of nut-based spreads: almond, bergamot and cocoa, and an all-orange spread. This was followed by hazelnut and almond flavored chocolates (dragées). A milestone was reached in 2010. The Amandula brand was created and a partnership with Tetra Pak Packaging Industries was established. The result is a ready-to-drink almond drink, packaged aseptically using UHT technology, which guarantees the freshness and organoleptic qualities of the product over time without the use of preservatives.
Nut-based spreads are made from almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios that are carefully toasted and cold-refined. The artisanal process preserves the original flavor of the fruit without the use of artificial flavors and colors. Due to the high content of natural oils, these fruits already produce their own, so no additional ingredients are needed. The nutrients are 100% natural. Therefore, the spreads are suitable for a vegan diet. The most popular spread is made from peeled almonds and is available in a 200g format, ideal for filling cakes, desserts or crêpes, or as a spread on bread. To complete the range, we have added two more spreads in the mixed flavors of almond/bergamot and cocoa/orange cream.
"Our raw material is made up of Sicilian or Calabrian almonds, which are still underproduced compared to what the market needs. In recent years, the planting of new farms in northern and southern Italy could make us self-sufficient in the future. The Italian product is still the most popular on the markets and shows a very interesting demand."
"Thanks to our participation in trade fairs, we have been able to increase our exports in recent years. These events are opportunities to launch new product lines, but also to understand how markets and consumer tastes are evolving. Cibus 2024, for example, has designated this edition as the year of protein and collagen."
Amandula accounts for 30% of sales in the USA, Belgium, France, Australia, China, Libya and Jordan. Almond processed products are in high demand in non-EU countries, especially in Islamic countries, where almond milk is widely used and is in fact the best-selling branded product in terms of volume. It is particularly consumed during the period of Ramadan, as it is energetic and therefore suitable to support fasting.
