Sonora's current table grape season is shaping up to be especially fruitful. According to the general director of the entity's Local Agricultural Association of Table Grape Producers, projections are the state will produce approximately 22 million boxes of table grapes destined for export and an additional 5 million boxes for the Mexican domestic market.
Sonora, Mexico's largest producer of table grapes, produces more than 25 high-quality varieties of grapes, which are exported to more than 25 countries, including the United States, Canada, South Korea, China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The production season, which runs from late April or early May to July, allows these countries to enjoy the diversity and quality of Sonora's grapes.
As of June 21, production has already reached 17 million boxes and, according to forecasts, it will total or exceed 22 million boxes for export in the coming weeks. The amount destined for national consumption could also increase. "To date we have 17 million boxes and we forecast we'll reach around 22 million boxes; it could be more, it could be less," stated Sergio René Lugo Bonillas, optimistically.
