U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge intercepted a substantial quantity of methamphetamine valued at over $5.1 million. The discovery occurred on June 30, during a secondary inspection of a tractor-trailer transporting cucumbers and bell peppers from Mexico. Utilizing non-intrusive inspection techniques and CBP canine teams, officers identified 360 packages hidden within the shipment, totaling 577.61 pounds of suspected methamphetamine.

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Laredo Port of Entry highlighted the operation's success, stating, "Our frontline CBP officers continue to deploy a strategic combination of inspection experience coupled with technology and that effort yielded this significant methamphetamine seizure." He further emphasized the role of such enforcement actions in safeguarding communities against the proliferation of hard narcotics.
The CBP seized the narcotics and has initiated an investigation with Homeland Security into the incident.
