Despite weather issues, Peru's grape area has grown slightly

Peru exported 62,745,726 boxes of table grapes in the 2023-2024 campaign, i.e. 12% less than the 71,404,349 boxes it shipped in the previous campaign. This decrease was mainly attributed to the low production in the country's northern region due to unfavorable weather conditions, such as high temperatures and heavy rainfall. According to the Association of Table Grape Producers of Peru (Provid), while exports from the northern region decreased significantly, exports from the southern region increased, thanks in part to the improvement of the port of Paracas, which facilitated shipments, especially to Europe.

The United States continued to be the largest importer of Peruvian grapes, followed by the Netherlands and Mexico, which surpassed China for the first time. North America was the region that purchased the most Peruvian grapes, followed by Europe and Asia. White Seedless was the most exported grape variety. However, there was a decrease in the export volume of all the main varieties.

Despite the weather issues, Peru's table grape area grew slightly, reaching 22,343 hectares. The cultivated area continues to be led by the White Seedless variety, followed by Red Seedless, Red Globe, and Black Seedless. The most commonly grown varieties include Sweet Globe, Red Globe, Autumn Crisp, Allison-Sheegene 20, and Sweet Celebration.
