In May 2024, Cameroon reported a 19% rise in banana exports, totalling 15,543 tons, as per Assobacam. This growth is linked to the contributions of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), and the new market entrant, Compagnie des Bananes de Mondoni (CDBM), a subsidiary of Compagnie Fruitière.
PHP led the exports with 10,921 tons, marking a notable increase from the previous year. The CDC, a significant public agro-industrial entity, exported 2,700 tons, showcasing a 37% boost from May 2023. CDBM outperformed Boh Plantations Plc with 1,098 tons of exports. The banana sector, a key export revenue source for Cameroon, primarily targets the European market, with the UK accounting for a substantial share. Post-Brexit, the UK continues to engage with Cameroon under the Economic Partnership Agreements to ensure favourable trade terms.
