Ukrainian watermelon prices plummet amid low demand and extreme heat

Ukrainian producers are seriously concerned about the situation in the melon market: due to low demand, watermelon prices are rapidly falling, and the harvest is under serious threat of destruction due to abnormally hot weather, report analysts from the EastFruit project. Sellers are rushing to sell their products as the harvest suffers from the heat. Some farms have already recorded cases of sunburn damage to watermelons, which only exacerbates the sales problems.

According to daily monitoring data from the project, as of today, watermelon prices have already dropped to $0.25-0.44/kg, which is on average 40% cheaper than at the end of last week. The main reason for this sharp price decline is the seasonal increase in the supply of watermelons from local farms. Meanwhile, the drought observed in several regions negatively affects the quality of the watermelons, which also puts pressure on prices.

It is worth noting that the price of watermelons in Ukraine today is already on average 47% lower than in the same period last year.
