In the Nabeul governorate of Tunisia, grape production is projected to reach 39,000 tons this year, split between 25,000 tons of vines and 14,000 tons of table grapes, as per the Local Commission of Agricultural Development (CRDA) estimates. Grombalia, a key wine-producing area responsible for about 40% of Tunisia's vine production, is expected to produce 8,000 tons of wine grapes and 4,000 tons of table grapes this season, though these figures are subject to climate variability.
Chokri Bouziri, President of the Local Agricultural Union in Grombalia, highlighted the reduction in wine-growing areas by 10 to 15%, leaving 800 hectares for table grape cultivation and 1,600 hectares for vines, many of which are aging and less productive. Wine producers in the region have expressed concerns over rising production costs, primarily due to expensive agricultural equipment and water scarcity.
Nabeul stands as a leading region in grape production in Tunisia, contributing around 70% to the vineyard output and 12% to table grape production, with approximately 3,000 wine growers operating in Grombalia, Bou Argoub, Korba, and Takelsa.
