In 2024, Georgia will double the production and export of blueberries, bringing the country around $40 million in revenue. This was announced by Minister of Agriculture Otar Shamugia, who noted that this figure will continue to grow in the coming years thanks to state support.
One of the leading companies in the industry is Agro Veli, with plantations located in the Imereti region. In 2024, the company expects to harvest 120–130 tons of blueberries. Currently, their export volume is 55 tons. Agro Veli actively exports its products to Europe and other countries.
More than $58 million in concessional agricultural loans have already been allocated for blueberry cultivation in Georgia.
Blueberries are a new but promising crop in Georgia. The average yield is 14.5 tons per hectare, placing Georgia 7th in the world. In 2023, 4,000 tons of blueberries were produced, and by 2027, production is expected to increase to 25,000 tons.
The main export destinations for Georgian blueberries are Russia, Poland, the UAE, the Netherlands, Armenia, Germany, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Hong Kong.
