Tony Coad - Reid Fruits

"Last season, Thailand saw the biggest increase in sales for us"

The team at Reid Fruits are familiar faces at Asia Fruit Logistica, having had a stand there every year since 2012. The company's main Asian export markets for their cherries are Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Japan.

"The volumes sent to the markets varies from year to year depending on the market conditions, but last season Thailand saw the biggest increase in sales for us. We also had a significant growth in our sales to the USA last season and are keen to continue this in the coming season," explains Tony Coad, Manager of Marketing and Sales at Reid Fruits.

Fortunately for Reid Fruits, who grow cherries in Tasmania - a recognised Pest Free Area - this means they can export to virtually all markets without having to apply any post-harvest treatments.

Reid Fruit's Gold Kangaroo brand and range of packaging is recognised globally for premium quality cherries, the packaging includes:

  • Gold Kangaroo 1kg box, 2kg box
  • Foil Kangaroo 2kg box
  • Signature Collection 2kg box
  • Red Kangaroo 2kg box, 5kg box

"We continue to partner with the team at laava and their innovative Smart Fingerpintā„¢ digital technology, which enables consumers to easily scan with their smartphone the unique code on each box of Reid Fruits cherries to check they are the genuine product. As well through scanning this code consumers can also learn more about the Reid Fruits story and our premium Tasmanian cherries. People can learn more about how to check the authenticity of Reid Fruits cherries through our website, or check for information through our official WeChat and LRB accounts.

"We also continue to work with Source Certain and their proprietary technology TSW Traceā„¢ which uses cutting edge chemical analysis to provide forensic verification of a product back to its source of origin.

"Over the last 3 seasons using this technology, the Source Certain team have established an extensive database which enables us to check and identify the provenance of our cherries back to our individual orchards. This coming season, we will also be continuing with further in market verification and supply chain investigations."

Whilst it is still the middle of winter in Tasmania, it will soon be Spring and Tony and the team are looking forward to another successful cherry season starting in December.

"A major project during this off-season for Reid Fruits has been an upgrade to our packing facility, which includes an extension to our packing shed to allow installation of a new grader. This provides a significant increase in our packing capacity along with the latest grading and sorting technology. Stage 2 of this project is planned for 2025 which will again see additional packing capacity installed."
