Arba Colombia, part of the Peruvian Danper group, has become an outstanding avocado exporter and has recently entered the Tahiti lime market.
Since its creation five years ago, Arba Colombia has made significant progress as a Hass avocado exporter. "In 2024, our goal is to export 4 million kilos of avocados. By 2025, we aim to grow by 25% in terms of volume, which will mean reaching 5 million kilos," says Commercial Manager Mauricio López.
Arba Colombia's avocados are reaching Spain, France, the Netherlands and Belgium, with the United States also as a key emerging market. "The United States has become our second most important market after Europe," says Mauricio López.
Colombia offers ideal weather for the uninterrupted production of avocados and Tahiti lime. The avocado season ends in March, making it possible to obtain high prices before the production peak in Peru. "This year, the European market has offered good prices due to the low volumes arriving from Peru and the high demand," says Mauricio López.
Competition and price fluctuations are constant challenges; nevertheless, Mauricio López remains optimistic. "We expect prices to remain favourable in the coming months, especially in September and October."
Arba Colombia predicts sustained growth in the demand for avocados, especially in Europe. "The European market is very important for us, and we continue to see a growing demand for our products," says Mauricio López.
The company is also looking to diversify its markets, with special interest in delivering its avocados to the Middle East and Eastern Europe. It also seeks new opportunities in South America, with particular interest in Argentina during the main season.
Tahiti lime
"Three months ago, we also started exporting Tahiti lime, aiming to reach 1.3 million kilos this year and 2.3 million by 2025," says Mauricio López.
As far as Tahiti limes are concerned, they compete mainly with Brazil in Europe and Mexico in the United States.
The firm exports 4.5 kilo boxes to Europe and 16.5 kilo boxes to the United States, and the main destinations are the Netherlands and France.
Tahiti lime production has grown remarkably in Colombia, with a 45% increase in exports. The company hopes to consolidate its presence in Europe and the United States.
"The Colombian industry has been making good progress not only in terms of volumes produced, but also in the consistency of the quality of the fruit to be exported, in business formalization, technological development and in obtaining the necessary certifications. Arba's business development and growth are based on all this," says Mauricio Lopez.
