In recent weeks, sales of cauliflower and broccoli have been a bit more difficult, but now, according to Robert Vogel of AGF-Direct from Zwaagdijk, a turnaround can be seen. "There is a bit more demand here and there, especially from the export markets and besides, there is not too much supply."
"Cauliflower and broccoli show a bit of the same picture. The price of cauliflower (sixes) is around 1.35 euros on the day trade and broccoli is selling around 1.65 euros," Robert continued. "The demand is slowly widening, for instance some broccoli is going to Poland and there is some demand for cauliflower from Spain."
"The weather may seem to be better for growing, but the cauliflower being harvested now was planted under tremendously difficult conditions. The differences between the plots are large, but growers are indicating that we can expect limited supply at least until early September."
Marketing of Romanesco is currently only plain sailing. "This is a real export item. We have plenty of it here, but sales are not going so fast this summer. Prices are around 1.40 euros for the sixes and three quarters for the eights."
