The pineapple market is currently experiencing a gap in the production. "Now this happens more often in summer after natural flowering, but currently, the supply of the big calibres in particular is very limited. Until October, pineapple availability will be limited. September will also be a month of low supply," says Mario de Goede of Dutoit Europe.
Now, the tight supply matches the demand reasonably well, as it is traditionally at a low ebb in summer. "That also has to do with the holidays and the availability of other summer fruit," Mario notes. Pineapple prices currently range between 9 euros for the small sizes to 11.50 euros for the fat sizes. "The price of the thicker sizes in particular shows an upward trend; they will only get more expensive."
