Grape exports from Moldova to the EU see a boost

In a recent update, the export of fresh grapes from Moldova to the European Union witnessed a substantial increase, more than doubling in volume over a span of seven months in 2024 compared to the corresponding period in 2023. Specifically, the quantity surged from 5,015 to 12,527 tons from January to July. Romania and Poland are the primary EU destinations for these Moldovan grape exports.

Further insights from the National Statistics Bureau of Moldova reveal a broader upward trend in agricultural exports for the January-May 2024 period. Notably, oilseed shipments saw a 1.6-fold rise, indicating a robust demand on international markets. Additionally, the export volumes of vegetables and fruits expanded by 24.3%, and the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages sector experienced a 13% growth. The first half of 2024 also marked a significant 65% increase in dried fruit exports, escalating from 4 thousand tons to 6.6 thousand tons.

Statistical data underscore the European Union's role as a key economic partner for Moldova, absorbing over 65% of its exports and contributing over 81% of foreign direct investments into the country. This underscores the EU's position as both a leading investor and a crucial market for Moldovan products.
