The value of Andalusian avocado exports between January and May 2024 has increased by 9.8% compared to the same period last year and reached 185,258,000 euros. In terms of volume, there has been an 11.9% increase, with a total of 54,397 tons in this same period.
The value of avocado sales abroad during the first five months of this year represents 2.4% of the total value of all Andalusian exports in the same period, as well as 82.4% of Spain's total exports of this subtropical fruit.
In 2023, the Spanish region of Andalusia exported a total of 110,764 tons of avocados worth 340,743,000 euros at destination.
Malaga and Granada, the main producers
Avocado exports from the provinces of Granada and Malaga account for 97.5% of Andalusia's total. Up to May 2024, the value of Malaga's shipments totalled 156.4 million euros. In 2021, sales were worth 309.9 million euros; in 2022, 298.8 million euros, and in 2023, 295.7 million euros.
For their part, avocado growers in Granada have marketed fruit worth 24.1 million euros between January and May. In 2021, exports from this province reached a value of 33.7 million euros; in 2022, they reached 42.7 million euros, and in 2023 they totalled 30.3 million euros.
The main destinations for the fruit from the province of Granada between January and May 2024 were France (7.2 million euros), the Netherlands (6.8 million euros), Germany (3.1 million euros), Finland (2.9 million euros) and Denmark (1.03 million euros).
Meanwhile, the fruit sold by Malaga producers during the same period went mostly to France (73.6 million euros), the Netherlands (30.4 million euros), Germany (19.9 million euros), the United Kingdom (7.99 million euros) and Austria (5.9 million euros).
