Hortifrut's first Peruvian blueberries arrive in China

The first Peruvian blueberries of the season have already arrived at the ports of China. Hortifrut's first ocean container of blueberries arrived at Guangzhou Market on Monday, July 29, in what is yet another milestone in the growing global demand for blueberries from Peru.

Hortifrut's first shipment contained blueberries of the Imperial variety, the company's own variety, characterized by its Jumbo size. This first batch will delight Chinese consumers with blueberries of size +22MM and +24MM.

Hortifrut blueberries sold quickly in the wholesale market, reaching prices ranging from 180 to 200 RMB/box, and will be enjoyed by families in China's major cities. Local retailers and wholesalers are looking forward to the next arrivals to meet increasing demand.

Hortifrut plans to ship hundreds of containers of blueberries from Peru to China this season using different varieties, depending on availability and demand. It has previously marketed different tasty varieties, including Divine, Cósmica or Milagro, with good results.

Sandra Wenz, Commercial Manager of Hortifrut's Asia Platform, said: "We are very satisfied with the first blueberry shipment from Peru to China. We provided good quality fruit, with impressive appearance, Jumbo size, and covered with full bloom; characteristics that will please our consumers. Peruvian blueberry consumption in China is growing strong, particularly for tasty and big size varieties."

Bobby Yavari, Hortifrut's APAC CEO, said, "China is a very important market for Hortifrut. We have our own production through our strategic partnership with Joy Wing Mau, but we also provide China with berries from other parts of the world out of season. We will continue to work so that families throughout the region can enjoy tasty and nutritious berries, every day of the year."

Hortifrut's strategic partner in China, Joy Wing Mau, one of the largest importers in the country, used a video with images of Hortifrut Peru's operation to promote the arrival of the first container of blueberries this season.
