Alexandre Cancel, Vergers Cancel:

"We're on track for a strong second half of the plum campaign"

While the first half of the season presented its share of challenges, the second half of the 2024 plum season is taking place in a fairly well-balanced market: "At the start of the season, our crop forecasts were more optimistic than the actual harvest. We anticipated a shortfall of 20-30%, but ultimately, we were only able to sell half of our crop. However, as we move into the second half of the season, the outlook is much more encouraging. While we're still facing a 10-15% shortfall in the Reine-Claude crops and a 20-30% shortfall in the American-Japanese crops, demand remains strong and prices are firm," reports Alexandre Cancel.

Golden Label Reine-Claude.

At the peak of the season, Vergers Cancel offers a wide selection of yellow, red, blue, and green varieties, including the renowned Reine-Claude Dorée, the company's flagship product. 'We're midway through the destocking period for this variety, which is truly excelling this year. The fruit boasts excellent quality, with high sugar content, good shelf life, and vibrant coloring. Although volumes are below those of a typical year, which will likely shorten the campaign by a week, they're still an improvement over earlier weeks. This slight supply shortage is also helping to sustain prices, and we're optimistic about the remainder of the season".

Prune Grenadine.

The range is now fully launched, featuring 'a succession of red varieties' like the red-fleshed club variety Primetime from Lily Ploom, as well as Grenadine. In the yellow category, we began harvesting TC Sun last week and are starting to market it this week. The renowned D'Ente plum, known for its use in prunes and also delicious when eaten fresh, is also available. As a result, the second half of the 2024 season promises to be more exciting in terms of both variety and volume.
