Over the first seven months of 2024, Transnistria, Moldavian Republic customs officials monitored approximately 14,500 tons of fruit and vegetable products for export. The Committee highlighted this represents a 57 % increase compared to the same period last year. The export of frozen corn increased 47 times, carrots and turnips 8 times, onions 4 times, tomatoes 3 times, and frozen peas doubled in volume.
However, due to adverse weather conditions, fruit exports have declined by 13 %, with apples, cherries, and plums being the most affected.
The primary consumers of Transnistria fruit and vegetable products this year were the residents of the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the People's Republic of Bangladesh, and Romania.
Exports to Moldova saw a 49% increase, mainly driven by higher demand for onions, cabbage, and carrots. Exports to Russia also rose by 36%, largely due to a surge in frozen sweet corn shipments. On the other hand, exports to Romania decreased by 17% compared to last year, while exports to Bangladesh saw a remarkable sixfold increase.
