Dutch tomato prices in June were 30%, 50%, and even 81% higher compared to the previous year, according to the latest market figures update from the European Commission. The Commission's tomato dashboard provides a monthly review of tomato prices.
Compared to June 2023, this year's prices are slightly lower, although the differences are minimal. Loose round tomatoes in the Netherlands yielded 1% less than they did in the same month last year. Vine tomatoes saw a 4% decrease, while cherry and specialty tomatoes dropped by 3%.
Overall, EU tomato prices have been disappointing, as shown by the figures on the tomato dashboard. At €1.09 per kilo, the price is 10 cents below the five-year average and 38 cents below the peak year of 2023.
In Spain, Italy, and France, June prices fell below the five-year average, with Spanish round tomatoes priced 3% lower and French cherry and specialty tomatoes experiencing a 31% decrease compared to average prices.
