Uzbekistan doubles potato imports from Kyrgyzstan

In the first half of 2024, Uzbekistan imported 26,500 tons of potatoes from Kyrgyzstan, marking a 120% increase compared to the same period in 2022, according to Tazabek.kg. The value of potato imports from Kyrgyzstan also saw significant growth, rising from $1.3 million to $2.8 million. Uzbekistan has become the primary buyer of Kyrgyz potatoes.

The increase in potato imports from Kyrgyzstan reflects a broader trend of growing imports of fruits and vegetables into Uzbekistan. During the first six months of 2024, Uzbekistan imported fruits and vegetables worth $237.9 million, which is 35% more than during the same period last year.

At the same time, Uzbekistan continues to develop its agricultural export potential. The country aims to boost its agricultural exports to $3.5 billion by 2024, focusing on increasing the production of fruits, vegetables, melons, and other crops. A key part of this strategy involves developing infrastructure, including the creation of 20 mobile laboratories in various regions, which will be integrated into the uzagrolab.uz platform. Additionally, Uzbekistan has announced plans to supply potatoes to the Kazakh city of Aktau.
