Tons of lemons and peppers, aimed for re-export and the Bulgarian market, were halted at the Bulgarian border. The Food Chain Risk Assessment Center's data highlights 26 notifications in the rapid notification system from April 1 to June 30, predominantly involving products from Turkey (25 notifications) and one from Pakistan. Specifically, 13 notifications concerned lemons designated for re-export, while peppers had 11 notifications, with 10 for destruction and one for re-export. Additionally, there were alerts regarding grapefruit and rice intended for destruction.
Comparatively, Bulgaria submitted 48 notifications last year, according to Nikolaj Spasov from the Food Chain Risk Assessment Center. From April 30 to June 258, Europe received 1 warning about food and animal feed containing pesticides. Fruits and vegetables led the categories with 143 notifications, often involving multiple active substances. India (49 notifications), Turkey (34), Egypt (30), Pakistan and Vietnam (18 each), China (11), Kenya (10), and Thailand (8) were the primary countries of origin.
