In the first half of 2024, Peru exported 390,972 tons of fresh avocado, generating revenues of $788 million. This is 5% less volume but 19% more value than in the same period in 2023. The increase in the value of exports is attributed to a 26% rise in the average price per kilogram, which went from $1.60 to $2.02.
The Netherlands consolidated its position as the main destination for Peruvian avocado, accounting for 33% of total exports. Imports decreased by 5% in volume (129,635 tons) but their value increased by 22%, reaching $260.7 million. This increase was due to a 29% rise in the average price, from $ 1.56 to $ 2.01 per kilogram.
Spain was the second-biggest destination market with a 20% share. It imported 76,993 tons worth $157.3 million, experiencing a 2% increase in volume and a 32% increase in value. The average price in this market was $ 2.04 per kilogram, i.e. 29% more than in the previous year.
The United States ranked third accounting for 12% of the total exported. It purchased 45,262 tons (+12%) for $97.3 million (+36%). The average price in this market increased by 22% and stood at $2.15 per kilogram.
