Vegetable prices drop as rains boost arrival in Pune market

In Pune, the market has witnessed an uptick in vegetable arrivals due to recent rainfall, leading to a reduction in the prices of various vegetables such as okra, cucumber, brinjal, moringa, flat beans, and common beans. One senior trader noted that the volume of fruits and vegetables reaching the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard has surged, with the market receiving 100 truckloads, including green chillies from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat, and cabbage from Gujarat and Karnataka.

Additionally, the Pune Division has contributed 700-800 sacks of Satari ginger, as well as other vegetables. This influx has resulted in a 20% price drop for okra. Conversely, prices for leafy vegetables like coriander, fenugreek, dill leaves, spring onions, white goosefoot, mint, and green sorrel have increased by 10-20% due to heightened demand.

Within the fruit sector, papaya and lemon prices have ascended, whereas chicoo and guava have become more affordable. Prices for pineapple, pomegranate, sweet lemon, orange, watermelon, musk melon, and custard apple have remained steady. The ongoing increase in vegetable and fruit arrivals is anticipated to persist, thereby providing relief to consumers and contributing to price stability in the market.
