In the initial half of 2024, Brazil witnessed a notable downturn in table grape exports, with volumes reaching only 5,500 tonnes, marking a 66.7% reduction from the previous year, as per Comex Stat data. This resulted in export revenues falling to $15.9 million, a 61.3% decrease.
The main factors attributed to this decline include adverse weather conditions in Pernambuco and Bahia, the leading grape-producing regions, and a shift by producers towards the local market due to higher domestic prices for seedless white grapes. Concurrently, to address the domestic shortfall, Brazil's grape imports saw a 21.9% increase, amounting to 8,200 tonnes, and a 62.9% rise in expenditure, reaching $17.5 million.
