In the initial seven months of the current year, Cambodia has reported a downturn in banana exports, totalling 143,481 tonnes. This represents a 20.59% decrease compared to the corresponding period in 2023, according to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF). The cumulative revenue from these exports amounted to over $96.7 million. The primary markets for Cambodian bananas include China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
MAFF's spokesperson, Khim Finan, attributed this decline to climate change and increased competition from neighbouring countries. "For these reasons, Cambodia's banana exports to international markets have dropped by over 20%, but we expect things to improve next year," Finan remarked.
