Julio Arias director of Jingold Chile:

Kiwi Day in Chile had a touch of Italy

The first Kiwi Day in Monticello, an important event for the kiwi industry in Chile, ended last Tuesday. Jingold was honoured to participate as one of the main sponsors and to provide its own speaker, according to a press release.

Jingold was one of the main sponsors of Kiwi Day 2024, which attracted more than 500 participants, including experts and operators in the sector. The Italian company, which specialises in the production and marketing of premium quality kiwifruit, participated in the event with a large exhibition stand and promotional material distributed to all attending operators. The company also participated in the seminar, which was the main event of the day. The seminar discussed issues relating to the future of kiwifruit. In particular, the director of Jingold Chile, Julio César Arias, presented the kiwifruit grown exclusively by the company's members in the northern and southern hemispheres and successfully marketed across the world: the yellow-fleshed variety Jinyan®, tender and juicy with a sweet and aromatic flavour, and the red-fleshed variety Oriental Red®, with tropical notes and a surprising sweetness, much appreciated by young consumers.

These varieties are of particular interest to the Chilean market because of their excellent organoleptic characteristics. They are also innovative and resistant varieties that are well adapted to the new challenges posed by climate change. Agronomically, they require less chilling than competing varieties and the traditional Hayward green-fleshed kiwi, which is a great advantage for growers.

"Jingold is proud to contribute to the development of kiwifruit in Chile and to bring innovation to the sector," said Julio César Arias, Director of Jingold Chile. The country has experienced a good economic cycle over the last four seasons, allowing growers to achieve attractive yields. This has contributed to the local industry being very optimistic about the future of this crop."

"We are very pleased to have participated in the first edition of Kiwi Day," continues the director of Jingold Chile, "as it is the first event of this importance developed in Chile exclusively for this crop. During the seminar we were able to highlight the development and positive feedback our innovative yellow and red pulp kiwi varieties are receiving in terms of production, trade and consumption around the world."

For Jingold, Chile is a strategic starting point for production in the southern hemisphere. In 2007, Jingold Chile S.A. was created to coordinate the work of the partner companies and to carry out the technical-agronomic activities and quality control. Its headquarters are located in San Fernando, in the Curicó Valley, 185 km south of Santiago, a small agricultural paradise with a mild Mediterranean climate and long summers that produce abundant harvests of tasty, aromatic fruit.
