The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) and Corpohass held a phytosanitary technical table in Abejorral, Antioquia, to discuss strategies to improve the competitiveness of Hass avocado in the region. The meeting, which brought together 37 actors from this fruit's production chain, highlighted Antioquia's importance in the country's avocado sector, as this Department accounts for 60% of Colombia's total Hass avocado production.
To date, Antioquia has exported more than 36,000 tons of Hass avocado, mainly to the European Union and the United States, economically benefiting thousands of families in the Department. This export volume has been key to consolidating Colombia's position as an important supplier in the international avocado market.
At the event, the ICA provided producers with essential tools to meet the demanding international quality standards, emphasizing pest prevention and the efficient use of the SimplifICA app. "Our goal is to accompany Hass avocado producers at every stage of the process, from production to export," stated Natalia Sánchez Arcila, head of plant registration for fresh export and quarantine pest surveillance at ICA's Antioquia branch.
She also highlighted the relevance of this technical table for the sector. "Our goal is to strengthen the production chain and ensure that the international markets continue recognizing Colombia's avocado for its high quality," she concluded.
