Israel approves import of Moldovan tomatoes

The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) announced that the State of Israel has approved the import of fresh tomatoes from the Republic of Moldova, according to a decision by the Israeli Plant Protection Service.

To export fresh tomatoes to Israel from the Republic of Moldova, the following requirements must be met: the tomatoes must be grown in Moldova; they must be cultivated at the production site with physical protection against Leptinotarsa decemlineata and officially inspected before shipment for the absence of this pest (pre-export inspection must be conducted following ISPM-31).

Additionally, the transported goods must be free of leaves, plant debris, stems, and calyxes.

"Shipments must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate declaring compliance with the above import requirements, and the Israeli importer must obtain a valid permit for this import," notes ANSA.
