European countries, traditionally the largest buyers of Azerbaijani hazelnuts after Russia, have drastically reduced their import volumes this year. According to ABC.AZ, citing the State Statistics Committee, European countries imported only 1,887 tons of shelled hazelnuts in the first half of 2024, with a total value of $13.91 million.
This represents a significant year-on-year decline of 2,735 tons, or 59%, in export volume.
Germany, the largest European importer of Azerbaijani hazelnuts, saw a 60% reduction in imports, purchasing only 900 tons for $6.88 million.
Meanwhile, exports to Russia also experienced a decrease, though less severe, with a 7% drop. In the last half-year, Azerbaijan sold just 5,236 tons of hazelnuts to Russia, valued at $31.28 million.
