Grape harvest in Moldova to be 35% lower in 2024

The grape harvest in the Republic of Moldova is projected to decrease by up to 35% this year compared to 2023, with an estimated yield ranging between 3 and 12 tons per hectare. These figures were presented during a recent meeting of the Council on the "Grapes, Wine, Wine-based Products, and Processed Products" (CP FVV) sector.

Industry experts have expressed concern over the condition of the vineyards, as 75% of them are experiencing severe or moderate water stress, while only 25% have maintained optimal soil moisture. The extremely high temperatures recorded between March and July 2024 have accelerated grape ripening by 14–16 days compared to 2023, leading to an earlier harvest starting on August 12.

The production cost of grapes varies depending on location, grape variety, vineyard age, technology applied, and yield per hectare.
