This week, Ukrainian vegetable prices have seen notable increases, particularly for cucumbers and potatoes. Greenhouse cucumbers now cost between $0.97-$1.45/kg, up 14% from last week. This surge is due to a shrinking supply of greenhouse and field-grown cucumbers, amid high demand. Prices are nearly 2.8 times higher than the same period last year, and further increases are anticipated as import options are limited.
Potato prices have also climbed significantly, with averages reaching $0.53/kg and peaking at $0.60/kg in some supermarkets. New potatoes sell for around $0.60/kg, while pink potatoes have slightly decreased to $0.65/kg.
Other vegetables have shown mixed price trends. White onions are now sold at an average of $1.0/kg, having dropped more than 50% since mid-summer. Regular onions have also decreased, averaging $0.47/kg, while young onions are priced at $0.39/kg, which is cheaper than last year's crop.
Beets from the new harvest have seen a price drop, averaging now costs of $0.29/kg.
Overall, despite the ongoing harvest season, vegetable prices in Ukraine remain high due to limited supply and strong market demand, with further price fluctuations likely as the season progresses.
