By September 1, 2024, Tajikistan's grape harvest exceeded 31,000 tons, marking an elevenfold increase compared to the previous year, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture. The significant loss of grape plantations in the winter of 2022 due to cold weather conditions had a detrimental impact on crop production. Nonetheless, horticultural experts successfully revitalized the vineyards, leading to a rapid recovery and expansion in grape production.
Additionally, the Ministry highlighted a prosperous year for other agricultural sectors. The summer season saw the collection of over 270 thousand tons of assorted fruits, a 54% rise from 2023. Ongoing harvests suggest potential further increases in production figures by year-end.
Vegetable yields have also seen a notable uptick, with a 25% increase, totaling 1.1 million tons. This includes 515 thousand tons of onions, 192 thousand tons of tomatoes, 128 thousand tons of carrots, 107 thousand tons of cucumbers, and 160 thousand tons of various other vegetables. Melon crops, encompassing watermelons, melons, and pumpkins, surged by 53%, reaching 563 thousand tons, while potato yields grew by 35%, totaling 280 thousand tons. Furthermore, there has been a growth in cereal and forage crop production.
Tajikistan's agricultural sector has also expanded its sowing area to more than 201 thousand hectares, exceeding both the planned and previous year's figures, supporting the cultivation of cereals, vegetables, potatoes, and forage herbs.
