Potted kiwifruit plants are currently being delivered. Denis Magalotti from the La Quercia Kiwi Plants nursery reports that, "compared to other years, we are seeing an increase in demand for Hayward plants, while the demand for yellow club kiwifruit plants remains stable, probably because they are regulated by POs." La Quercia's customers are mostly Italian companies from regions such as Calabria, Veneto and Emilia Romagna and, abroad, customers come from Portugal and France.

According to Magalotti, obtaining healthy and good-sized plants requires a lot of attention, care and a nursery that does not grow too many of them. The company covers a total of over 10 hectares, six of which are used for the nursery, so that an adequate rotation can take place. "One of our characteristics is that the entire nursery is in greenhouses. The plant material is therefore protected against rain and hail during all stages of cultivation, which helps prevent diseases."
Last year, Denis Magalotti inaugurated a further 6000 square meters of technologically-advanced greenhouses in order to improve its production efficiency. The greenhouses are fully automated: thanks to an electronic control unit with pre-set parameters, opening and closing are adjusted to keep temperature, humidity and wind protection under control.
With over 200,000 kiwi plants produced each year, 'La Quercia' is a small to medium-sized nursery, but one that aims for precise, quality production. "We don't want to obtain large numbers, because we want to follow each process with accuracy. We are a small company and we set ourselves apart thanks to uniform, healthy and well-formed root systems and harmonious plant development. Kiwi plants that come out of the nursery already well formed, will in fact give great satisfaction to fruit growers."
