Shanghai customs has introduced measures to streamline the clearance of African fruits, aiming to offer Chinese consumers access to a broader range of fresh produce. A recent shipment consisting of 67.5 tons of apples and oranges from South Africa arrived at Waigaoqiao Port Area in Shanghai, with customs officials ensuring the fruits were available in the local market on the same day. Luo Zhen, deputy chief of No.10 inspection division at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Area Customs, emphasized the balance between efficiency and strict plant quarantine supervision to facilitate the swift market entry of these imports.
The initiative reflects the strengthening economic and trade relations between China and Africa, enriching the Chinese market with high-quality agricultural products from the continent. Over the current year, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Area Customs has processed 2,298 tons of South African fruit, including grapefruits, oranges, pears, and apples. Customers have positively received the imported fruits, noting their distinct taste and quality compared to domestic offerings.
