Up to week 34, Peru has shipped 44% less ginger and turmeric

Peruvian ginger and turmeric exports fall

As of week 34 of this year, Peru has exported 26,480 tons of ginger and turmeric for an FOB value of $51,604,559. This is 44% less than in the same period of the previous year, according to a report by Fresh Cargo Peru.

The report indicates that North America remains the main destination for these Peruvian products, accounting for 61% of shipments. However, this market has experienced a 32% reduction compared to last year, achieving a value of $33,100,600. Europe follows in importance with a 38% share, but has suffered a 57% drop over the previous year, with a value of $17,813,546.

In contrast, exports to Latin America have increased by 106% compared to last year. However, this destination only accounts for less than a 2% share and $634,070.

Organic ginger accounted for 84% of the ginger exported in this period, i.e. -33% compared to the previous year. The remaining 16% was conventional ginger, with a 70% decrease.
