Emmanuel Schaffner, Verduyn

"We made this investment to get closer to the French consumer"

Emmanuel Schaffner, Sales Director at Verduyn, proudly announced the successful launch of their new production unit. Since Monday, the company's carrots have been packed at the new state-of-the-art facility in Wancourt.

40 to 50 bags per minute
The new facility, spanning 2,000 square meters, is dedicated exclusively to packaging high-end products across two lines, replacing two former refrigeration zones. "The first line, which began operation earlier this week, boasts an impressive capacity of 40 to 50 bags per minute, compared to just 30 with the old line. The second line, designed for bulk packaging, is set to launch next week. While the machines are still in the testing phase, we expect to ramp up production in the coming weeks," Schaffner explains.

Getting closer to French consumers
"We're thrilled with the start-up, and our customers are too." This positive response marks the realization of a long-standing vision for the company. "The primary goal of this investment is to bring us closer to French consumers, which is our top priority today. This project aligns with the short-circuit trend, combining a local product with local expertise, ensuring freshness, quality, and a reduced carbon footprint."

Just three months ago, Schaffner hinted that the company was "not ruling out the construction of another facility, either for packaging or storage, perhaps right in the heart of the plain, depending on our growth and the success of this new investment."

A Buoyant Carrot Market
"We're currently experiencing a fairly buoyant market with a small positive 'back-to-school' effect on sales. However, prices have been trending downward over the past month due to better yields compared to last year, thanks to more favorable weather conditions. It's still too early to predict if this trend will continue, as a return to last year's heavy rains and flooding could quickly complicate the situation and push prices in the opposite direction," concludes Schaffner.
