Slight increase in apple harvest expected compared to the previous year

With an area of almost 3,700 hectares, the apple is the most widely cultivated fruit in Switzerland. It is also the Swiss people's favourite fruit. They eat around 16 kilograms per capita every year. The Swiss Fruit Association is expecting an apple harvest of almost 103,600 tonnes this year, which is slightly better than last year.

Although the wet spring was a challenge for producers and the protection of apple crops took considerably more time and effort, the apple trees are now well covered thanks to good care and the fruit looks promising, according to the fruit association. The harvest is currently at its peak and will continue until the end of October.

The most important apple-growing regions in Switzerland are in the cantons of Thurgau, Valais and Vaud.
