The IDA software - an AI-based optimization tool launched in February 2023 by Mateo Beacco, Mathieu Grosso and Alex Chataigner, is continuing to grow. After integrating several supermarket chains, it is now Biomonde Solidarité's turn to use IDA.
"Increase sales and reduce food waste" is the stated aim of IDA's artificial intelligence-based software. The solution promises to "optimize the management of fresh produce in both convenience stores and hypermarkets." Since last year, IDA has already won over a number of chains (Système U, Naturalia, Provencia, Biocoop, Les Comptoirs de la Bio and even Carrefour). Today, IDA is part of the Biomonde Solidarité cooperative.
"Maximizing margins and minimizing losses in the fruit and vegetable departments"
"30% less waste, 5% more sales," explains Mateo Beacco, one of the co-founders. "Fruit and vegetable section managers usually use a cadence system to place their orders, and can enter up to 400 lines a day, the equivalent of 500 to 700 hours a year." According to Mateo, the market management software used today was developed for dry produce and is therefore not adapted to fresh produce. As a result, if the floor manager orders too much, he loses up to 10% of his turnover, and if he orders too little, he can lose up to 15% every year due to stock shortages."
With the IDA software, the entire ordering process is optimized thanks to algorithms that suggest orders based on various parameters (more than 100) such as weather, product shelf life, seasonality, sales history or even catchment area... A "new approach that takes into account the parameters inherent to fruit and vegetables by proposing a mathematical optimization based on margin, packaging, price elasticity... which maximizes margins and minimizes losses." Another advantage offered by the developers is the ability to consolidate orders into a single order via a tablet linked directly to the purchasing centers and suppliers.
Partnership with Biomonde Solidarité
Biomonde Solidarité, the 3rd largest cooperative of independent organic retailers in France, has chosen IDA to manage ultra-fresh produce in its 145 shops. The partnership is designed to meet a crucial challenge: "eradicating food waste by optimizing the supply of traditional fresh produce through innovative AI solutions." Thanks to this collaboration, Biomonde Solidarité says it has observed "a reduction in shrinkage of 30% to 50%, a reduction in stock shortages of 80%, and increased availability of new, more affordable products for all its customers."
