"Mango market as ever: unpredictable, fickle and perilous"

After a few weeks of Indian summer with difficult mango sales, we now seem to be moving to the other end of the spectrum," observes Henk van der Meij of Hars&Hagebauer. Less than two weeks ago, Brazilian mangoes - especially the big sizes - were unmarketable and now everything is back in full swing.

"The season from the Dominican Republic has ended. Israel is on its last legs and volumes from Brazil are still limited, incidentally in line with previous years," the importer continued. "The current market situation will undoubtedly result in another short boom in supply with a consequent price drop."

"Brazil will try to make its move anyway before the supposed Peru volume is released, as reports from Peru are still that they are entering the market early and with lots of mangoes. At the same time, there are also murmurs of poor quality due to the cash positions of many growers after the catastrophic last season. In short, the mango market is as unpredictable, fickle, and perilous as ever. Who knows, let's hear it!"
