Due to the drought and abnormal heat in Ukraine, potatoes and other crops were experiencing severe damage. The Volyn State Agricultural Research Station reports that high temperatures and a lack of moisture have led to thermal damage on potatoes, which could result in rotting and affect their storage quality.
Additionally, climate change has contributed to the spread of new aggressive pests, such as whiteflies and aphids, which were previously only found in greenhouses. Scientists are actively testing new treatments to combat these threats.
According to the research station's forecasts, global drought follows a cyclical pattern, and within the next two years, a return to more typical weather is expected.
