Washington projected to harvest around 124 million 40-pound boxes of apples

According to the Ag Information Network's Fruit Grower Report, Washington is projected to harvest approximately 124 million 40-pound boxes of apples. Jon DeVaney, President of the Washington State Tree Fruit Association, highlighted the benefits of a "normal-sized" crop for ease of management and marketing throughout the season.

Despite facing a declared drought condition, DeVaney noted that with sufficient advance warning, irrigation districts and growers successfully navigated the challenge, albeit with concerns for later-harvested varieties and irrigation water availability. He also mentioned the ongoing interest in the apple harvest, which starts around August 1st but extends to mid or late November for some varieties. DeVaney commended the quality of this year's crop, expressing optimism for consumer satisfaction. Gala, Granny Smith, and Red Delicious remain the top apple varieties grown in Washington.
