Mozambique's port of Beira expands reefer yard capacity

Reefer exports at the Port of Beira, Mozambique, have seen an upward trend, driven by seafood and an increase in citrus fruit shipments. Responding to this demand, CdM has unveiled a new export reefer yard equipped with 64 additional reefer plugs, positioned close to the quays to ease congestion at the existing facility, which houses 144 plugs.

The primary reefer yard is set for expansion to accommodate a total of 224 plugs by year-end, with plans to further extend this capacity by adding 64 plugs in 2025. This expansion will elevate the Port of Beira's total reefer plug count to 288 in 2024, reaching 352 by 2025, thereby enhancing its capability to manage both import and export reefer cargo for the hinterland.

To streamline operations amidst this growth, the Port of Beira has introduced a Reefer Monitoring System (RMS) for real-time, remote reefer container management, ensuring cargo safety through optimal temperature control. These developments underscore the port's commitment to adapting its infrastructure to the dynamic needs of its clientele.
