In Malda, West Bengal, there exists a potential for the cultivation of the Miyazaki mango, known as the world's most expensive mango. This district, renowned for its diverse range of nearly 200 mango varieties, may soon add the Miyazaki mango to its repertoire. Recent research indicates that the soil in Malda possesses the necessary characteristics for the commercial cultivation of this variety. Conducted by three educators from Shovapur High School—Haraswami Das, Somnath Chatterjee, and Suchanda Das—the study suggests that the district's climate, weather conditions, and soil pH levels align with the requirements for growing the Miyazaki mango.
According to the findings, the temperature range in Malda, which averages between 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, is conducive to the cultivation of the Miyazaki mango. Somnath Chatterjee, one of the researchers, highlighted the suitability of Malda's soil and climate for this type of mango. The research underscores the potential for large-scale cultivation, which could significantly benefit local farmers. Haraswami Das emphasized the importance of providing proper training to farmers to facilitate the widespread cultivation of the Miyazaki mango, suggesting that with the right support from the district administration, agricultural department, and horticultural division, Malda could see considerable financial benefits from this venture.
