Ralph and Nancy Hanscome of Atlantic Potato Distributors have been honored with induction into the Potato World Hall of Recognition for 2024. With beginnings rooted in agriculture—Ralph hailing from a New Brunswick farm and Nancy from a career in Connecticut—the duo ventured into the potato sector. Ralph's certification as a Potato Seed Inspector paved the way for the establishment of Atlantic Potato Distributors in 1993.
The Hanscomes evolved their enterprise from a basement setup to a prominent entity, renowned for pioneering in food safety and potato packaging innovations within the New Brunswick potato industry. Their collaboration with agencies such as the USDA and CFIA has led to advancements in inspection and packaging systems. Through acquisitions and a commitment to technological advancements, they positioned APD as a frontrunner in the industry.
Recognized for their entrepreneurial spirit in 2008, Ralph and Nancy have also contributed to community and global conservation efforts. APD, under their leadership, employs over 100 individuals and is acclaimed for setting benchmarks in potato production and distribution. Their induction into the Hall of Recognition is a testament to their commitment to innovation, quality, and community engagement.
The recognition event was held on September 14, 2024, at the New Brunswick Potato Museum in Florenceville-Bristol, NB.
