In Ukraine, particularly in the Vinnytsia region, the harvest of apples is expected to be half of last year's yield due to a cold spring and dry summer. The head of the "Vinnytsiasadvinprom" Association, Serhiy Boychuk, notes that the southern regions have been most affected by spring frosts and inadequate pollination, while the northern areas are showing better results.
At the horticultural complex in the village of Vasylivka, where there are 440 hectares of apple trees, the agronomist reported a significant decrease in yield—by 50-60%. Frosts and hail have damaged many fruits. The harvesting, which began at the end of August, will continue until October 10, but a shortage of labour is complicating the process.
Deputy General Director Anatoliy Blahun highlighted that three thousand tons of apples have already been collected—half of the new harvest. Prices for apples have risen to 0.6 euros per kilogram, which is three times higher than last year. However, the risks of storage until spring remain high due to potential imports.
